Homecoming at the University of Central Florida is no frivolous celebration. It’s an extensively planned week hosting the University’s biggest events of the year. (The tradition of Spirit Splash alone is a nationally recognized event!) This year’s events included the inaugural Shining Knights Alumni Awards, which we’re excited to highlight, as 321’s Chief Strategy Officer, Carey Sobel, received the first Young Alumni Award.

Superseding the retired Black and Gold Gala, the Shining Knights Alumni Awards ceremony honors three distinguished alumni for their professional achievements and engagement with the community. The three major awards are the Young Alumni Award, John C. and Martha Hitt Honorary Alumni Award and Distinguished Alumni Award. Carey accepted his award alongside Loretta and Michael Corey (Honorary Alumni Award), and Michael Manglardi (Distinguished Alumni Award).

Carey’s ambitious journey began while he was a student at UCF, and has included eight different business ventures in industries including entertainment, hospitality, real estate/brokerage and marketing — all before he turned 30. Additionally, his dedication to his alma mater is apparent, as he was a member of the 2017 30 Under 30 class, a board member of the Young Alumni Council and a member of the UCF College of Business Alumni Chapter.

The award is also an opportunity to highlight Carey’s personal achievements in tandem with his professional. Mentioned by UCF Advancement in their article Noble Sobel, Carey’s family has quickly grown with the adoption of his six-year old niece, Marley.

Carey’s unceasing drive to do all things excellent isn’t surprising to one of his business partners and CEO of 321, Joe Boutin. “As he has grown into his role as a husband and a father, his priorities at work remain the same,” Boutin said. “Carey and his wife, Lauren, have embraced parenthood with full hearts, and I’m glad this award highlights both his professional and personal achievements, and I have no doubt this is the beginning of many more recognitions that Carey will receive.”

Congratulations to you, Carey! The team at 321 is proud to have you as CSO!
