Orlando’s art community blossoms more every year, with an influx of new exhibits, events, and themed parties. If you’re feeling a little artsy, a little nerdy, or just in need of some inspiration, here are a few local events all you Orlando creatives won’t want to miss.

1.  NERD NITE ORLANDO

When: Saturday, January 23, 2016 7:00pm

Where: BrewPop Brewery 2122 US-92, Auburndale, FL 33823

What: The event includes entertainment, panel discussions, photo opportunities, cosplay contest, gaming, expo, double-creature feature and a Superhero’s Ball.

2.  STAR WARS EXHIBIT

When: Saturday, January 23, 2016 4:00 pm – 11:55 pm

Where: The Hourglass Brewery- 480 S. Ronald Reagan Blvd. Longwood, FL 32750

What: Featuring Star Wars inspired art by local artists, specialty beers and handcrafted sodas just for this event. There will be prizes, games, and giveaways. At exactly 5:01pm, the brewery will be joined by the 501st Legion Charity, who will be in full gear and available for pictures.

3. STEAMPUNK INDUSTRIAL SHOW 

When: Saturday, January 23 – Sunday, January 24, 2016 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Where: Renninger’s Antique Center 20651 U.S. Highway 441, Mount Dora

What: The day is filled with special sights and sounds from when Victoria and Albert collide with the Industrial Age. Music performed by some of the best “Steampunk” musicians, magic, and performances by Phantasmagoria. Delicious food including “High Tea”. Participate in the 2nd Annual Teapot Race or even take a steampunk horse & carriage ride.

4. RESTORING PHOTOGRAPHS WORKSHOP

When: Saturday, January 23, 2016 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Where: Crealde School of Art 600 St Andrews Blvd, Winter Park, Florida 32792

What: Learn techniques to restore your cherished vintage photographs forever. No negatives are required for this workshop, just a handful (about five per student) of your most beloved aged or damaged photos and a thumb drive. You will be instructed in several techniques to reverse the aging process and repair common issues seen in vintage photos. Computers are available for your use or you may bring your own laptop.

5. STORYTELLERS ORLANDO

When: Saturday, January 23, 2016 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Where: 706 W Smith Street Orlando, FL 32804

What: Storytellers is an expressive writing and creative forum for writers, thinkers and dreamers alike. It is a gathering of minds and an opportunity to be expressive, focused, honest and inspired! The goal is to find release, exchange ideas, and make connections.

6. HUMP DAY HAPPY HOUR & ART STROLL 

When: Wednesday, January 27, 2016 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Where: Mills 50 District

What: Purchase a wristband for $10 (cash only), receive a glass and a map of 8 businesses and bars, each with a complimentary beverage! Glass pick up is at New Horizon Pharmacy, 1213 N. Mills. Local artists will be displaying their art along the stroll!

7. ART NIGHT OUT: MIXED MEDIA COLLAGING

When: Wednesday, January 27, 2016 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Where: Orlando Museum of Art  2416 North Mills Ave. Orlando, FL 32803

What: Bring some friends, share an “adult beverage” [or two], and explore creativity through the art of mixed media collaging with instructor Lindsay Thibault. Learn the art of layering and applying different techniques to cutouts, tissue paper, paints, and a variety of other materials. There will be plenty of supplies to support all skill levels.

8. ZORA! OUTDOOR FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

When: Saturday, January 30 9:00 am – 5:00pm

Where: 100 E. Kennedy Blvd. Eatonville, FL

What: An open-air fair of artisans, crafters, educators and community organizations. Browse the artistic creations of Eatonville residents at the Zora Neale Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts, see a production of Zora Neale Hurston: Storyteller at the historic Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. There’s also the Zora! Literacy Initiative book giveaway, a creative writing workshop for high-school students. The festival culminates with live performances by legendary soul group the Isley Brothers with KEM.

9.  AIGA ORLANDO COMMUNITY MEETING

When: Tuesday, February 2, 2016 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Where: TBD

What: A meeting of the minds to discuss ideas and make plans for the growth and betterment of our local design community.

10. ORLANDO MUSEUM OF ART FIRST THURSDAYS: PEACE AND HARMONY

When: Thursday, February 4, 2016 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Where: Orlando Museum of Art  2416 North Mills Ave. Orlando, FL 32803

What: Art that focuses on the need for people working together cooperatively – the art can be symbolic, abstract, portraits of peacemakers or creators of harmony in human civilization.

11. FAVO FIRST FRIDAY ART SHOW

When: Friday, February 5, 2016 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Where: Faith Arts Village Orlando 221 E Colonial Dr, Orlando, Florida 32801
What: FAVO celebrates all that is February. 36 rooms full of Artists, food trucks, live music, family friendly and much more.

12. INDIE-FOLK FEST 2016

When: Saturday, February 13, 2016, 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Where: Mennello Museum of Art 900 East Princeton Street Orlando, FL 32803

What: This Valentine’s Day-themed family picnic features local music, original art vendors plus foodie-friendly goodies and craft beverages for sale. Bring your picnic blankets, make valentine cards, and enjoy an afternoon of music in the winter sunshine.

13. WINTER PARK SIDEWALK ART FESTIVAL

When: March 18-20, 2016 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

Where: In Central Park and along Park Avenue in Winter Park, FL

What: The Festival features a wide variety of fine arts and crafts in the following categories: clay, digital art, drawings & pastels, fiber, glass, graphics & printmaking, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media 2D, mixed media 3D, painting, photography, sculpture, watercolor and wood as well as our Emerging Artists.
