OFF THE GRID: THE 8 BEST SPOTS IN ORLANDO TO WORK REMOTELY

Orlando may be known primarily for its tourism and hospitality, but its tremendous growth as a tech hub has people flocking to the City Beautiful for their digital needs. This may very well be why Forbes ranked us as #4 in the nation for job growth and why the rise of “remote workers,” mostly in the tech scene, has skyrocketed. While we love our office where we have open desks to collaborate and various work areas to lounge or stretch, there are great little spots around Orlando to be productive and appreciate the local culture. Here are some of our favorites.

1. STARDUST VIDEO & COFFEE

1842 WINTER PARK RD, ORLANDO, FL 32803

The video store turned coffee shop is an eclectic little place where young and old, hipsters and nerds, creative professionals and local regulars gather for everything from business meetings to book clubs. The decor alone lends to the creative mind and creates a great ambience to settle in and get comfortable for a few hours with your laptop. Be aware of events at “The ‘Dust” as it also serves as a venue, market, and meeting place. Even better, get your work done and then partake in all it has to offer, like the Audubon Market every Monday evening.

2. AUSTIN’S COFFEE

929 W FAIRBANKS AVE, WINTER PARK, FL 32789

Located on Fairbanks Ave. in Winter Park, Austin’s Coffee is a haven for anyone trying to get work done in a relaxed, eclectic environment. The organic, fair trade coffee is amazing and cheaper than Starbucks and, best of all, it’s open 24 hours a day. Much like Stardust, Austin’s is a watering hole for the Orlando art scene, with open mic nights held every night with everything from comedy to hip hop. For a more quiet ambiance, stop in any time before or after 8pm-12am.

3. DRUNKEY MONKEY

444 N BUMBY AVE, ORLANDO, FL 32803

Another Orlando gem, Drunken Monkey offers a little something for everyone. With free wifi, delicious food options for vegans and meat eaters alike, plus tea, coffee and smoothies, pretty much anyone can find their niche at the Monkey. If you don’t have your nose buried in your laptop, the art, movies, comedy, and board games are a great source of entertainment (or procrastination).

4. CANVS

101 S GARLAND AVE #108, ORLANDO, FL 32801

Coffee shops aside, Canvs co-working space is designed for growing startups in Orlando and considers itself a “front door to the technology community.”  Whether you need a part-time desk or a full office, Canvs offers comfortable work areas and access to technology that may not be available at your average coffeehouse. If you’re the type of creative who thrives off collaboration it’s a great place to meet other entrepreneurs and engage with the community.

5. CATALYST

5TH FLOOR,, 1 S ORANGE AVE, ORLANDO, FL 32801

Another “inspired workspace” located in Downtown Orlando, Catalyst offers many of the same amenities as Canvs with a few added comforts such as ergonomic furniture and glass work rooms. It’s a bit pricier than its competitors but is well worth it if you need just the right comfort and ambiance to stay productive. If you’re working in groups or doing presentations, the state-of-the-art conference rooms are decked out with white boards, HDTV, AppleTV, and Chromecast.

6. SMART COFFEE WINTER PARK

521 S PARK AVE, WINTER PARK, FL 32789

This comfy coffee shop right near the entrance of Park Avenue in Winter Park is another great spot to do work, read a book, or surf the web. They pride themselves on serving an “environmentally-conscious caffeine kick and satisfying comfort food crafted from local and organic ingredients.” An ipad located at each cozy booth gives off that “techy” vibe while the small space and staff doesn’t make you feel overwhelmed or distracted like at the Starbucks across the street. Your experience is incomplete without an order of their hearty, mouth-watering chicken and waffles.

7. 903 MILLS MARKET

903 S MILLS AVE, ORLANDO, FL 32806

Nestled in the heart of Mills Ave., 903 is a quaint, lovely little place for almost any occasion. Many are surprised to learn that they have free wifi, so when you’re not relaxing there for Sunday brunch spend your weekdays with your laptop as you enjoy the outside tables and neighborly atmosphere. On a breezy spring day I can’t think of a better place to sit back for a few hours. An impressive beer selection and amazing prices on classic meals are the cherry on top.

8. LAKE EOLA

512 E WASHINGTON ST, ORLANDO, FL 32801

Believe it or not, you can find a strong wifi connection in most parts of Lake Eola, whether you’re lounging on the benches by the amphitheater or on the grassy areas of the park. Enjoy the outdoor air, the bustle of active Orlandoans, and anything you may need at the various restaurants and shops outside the park. What more could you ask for.
While most of the 321 team works in-house, some of our developers prefer working remotely throughout the city. We love a good opportunity to change things up by finding the best spots to lounge with our laptop. If you want more information about what we do and how we do it, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
